ICMBB2024- Preconference Workshop

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) represents a continuous success since its discovery in 1983 by Kary Mullis. Throughout the years, PCR has transitioned from the initial -1st generation, qualitative endpoint PCR, to 2nd generation namely quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR).

Today, PCR has advanced into the 3rd generation digital PCR (dPCR), which allows even higher precision and sensitivity of nucleic acid quantifi-cation beyond the capabilities of qPCR. Along with endpoint PCR and qPCR, dPCR is playing an ever-increasing role in clinical diagnostics and research laboratories for challenging samples.

This workshop will focus on the developments of PCR in molecular testing featuring the ease of use of qPCR and compare the performance of qPCR and the nanoplate dPCR techniques with respect to precision and sensitivity. We will demonstrate the steps involved in qPCR and dPCR experiments, including plate loading, running, imaging and data analysis, as well as provide recommendations for a seamless transfer from qPCR to dPCR.
